The Anechoic and Semi-anechoic chamber of the Engineering Department of the University of Ferrara inaugurated on March 2008. |
Dimensions:
- Semi-anechoic configuration: 10.1 x 9.5 x 8.3 m:
Volume ≈ 800 m 3
- Anecohic configuration: 10.1 x 9.5 x 6.5 m:
Volume ≈ 620 m 3

|
Acoustic parameters:
- Low cut-off frequency: 50 Hz (in one-third octave bands, according to ISO 3745)
- High cut-off frequency: >10 kHz (in one-third octave bands, according to ISO 3745)
- Internal background noise: < 15 dB(A)
|
- Service equipment:
The chamber is equipped with:
- hydraulic system for water adduction and drainage (to test for example domestic appliances);
- mono and three-phase electric power system;
- gases exhaust system (to test combustion engines);
- low noise emission HVAC to maintain a constant temperature and humidity inside the chamber.
|
Measurement equipment: The Chamber is equipped with a multichannel acquisition system SINUS, with ICP ½ inch microphones (PCB,, G.R.A.S., or B&K) and a B&K sound intenisty probe, controlled by means of acquisition and post-processing software SAMURAI®.
|
Testing:
- Sound power measurments according to ISO 3745 standard (other than ISO 3744 and ISO 3746);
- Sound source directivity measurements according to ISO 3745 standard (anechoic configuration is used for 3D directivity);
- Sound power evaluation through sound intensity measurements according to the ISO 9614-1 and ISO 9614-2 standards;
- Sound mapping by means of sound intensity measurements according to ISO 9614-1 standard;
- Acoustic benchmarking, product development and optimisation, machine noise reduction.
